When Trump first hit the political scene in 2015, it with a speech attacking immigrants — specifically Mexicans — in what would turn out to be a preview of the next few years from him. "Now, Trump is singing the same tune about outsiders, but with a slightly different hook: baselessly claiming that Democrats, buoyed by voters of color, stole our election in the hopes of hijacking America," Alicia Menendez writes in her first MSNBC Daily column. Among his chief targets have been women of color, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of the Squad. But the Squad is pushing back, even as the threats against them mount. "It is possible to underestimate the squad’s bravery, especially because it is so often misrepresented as self-serving bravado or a cheap self-branding exercise," Menendez writes. "But perhaps now, faced with threats to their own safety and security in response to doing the right thing, their detractors will understand just how hard it is to do what you believe is right even when it puts a target on your back."
