An Israeli court just showed how racist the country’s 'nation-state' law really is. Instead, it has what are called "basic laws" that form the building blocks of the state. In 2018, Israel passed a basic law known as the "Nation State" law, which established that only Jews can determine the future of the country. Critics argued that the law was racist and that it disenfranchised the 20% of the Israeli population who are Arabs. Now an Israeli court has proved those critics right, Hayes Brown writes in his newest essay. And we should be able to point out that like redlining policies in the United States, a law that allows a city to enact policies that deter more Arabs from settling in it is a racist one.
