Here's what you may have missed. [View in browser]( [Image]( SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 DAY 979 OF THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION [Image] It was one of those nights. If you decided to go out for dinner, enjoy a relaxing Friday night with family or friends, or if you just blinked momentarily ... here's everything you may have missed. 1. [Special envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker resigns]( The U.S. special envoy for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, resigned shortly after being named in the whistleblower complaint. Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal lawyer, said Thursday that Volker had encouraged him to speak to Ukrainian officials regarding former VP Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. 2. [Trump reportedly told Russians he doesn't care about election meddling]( The Washington Post reports that President Trump told Russian officials in 2017 that he wasn't concerned about Moscow's interference in the 2016 U.S presidential election. White House officials limited access to the remarks to a small number of people, WaPo reports, citing 3 former officials with knowledge on the matter. 3. [Secretary of State Mike Pompeo subpoenaed]( Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was subpoenaed by three House Committees to turn over documents related to the investigation into President Trump's dealings with Ukraine by Oct. 4. "Your failure or refusal to comply with the subpoena shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House’s impeachment inquiry," the committee chairmen wrote in a letter. 4.[Trump's secret stash]( Current and former officials told the New York Times that the White House used a highly classified computer system, accessible to only a select few officials, to store transcripts of President Trump's calls from Vladimir Putin & the Saudi royal family. 5. [Pence reportedly advised against releasing rough transcript of Ukraine call]( According to the Wall Street Journal, VP Mike Pence initially advised President Trump against releasing the notes of the president's July call with Ukraine's president. The VP "raised concerns about the precedent the release would set, but ultimately fell in line behind Trump." IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: VIDEOS [Image]( ['Total panic' as 'shell-shocked' White House struggles to find impeachment footing]( NBC News reports that panic has now set in at the White House, where according to one source, aides are "increasingly wary" that "the president could respond erratically and become 'unmanageable.’” (Hardball) [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Image]( [Implicated Ukraine special envoy resigns from State Department]( According to the Arizona State Press, Ambassador Kurt Volker, a "Special Envoy" to Ukraine, resigned from the State Department. It was Volker who introduced Rudy Giuliani to a key Ukrainian official as Giuliani sought dirt on Joe Biden. (Hardball) [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Image]( [WaPo: Trump told Russian officials in 2017 he wasn't concerned about election meddling]( The Washington Post reports that Trump told Russian officials in 2017 he wasn't concerned about Moscow's interference in U.S election. We are having another one of those nights.” — Rachel Maddow OPINION [White evangelicals love Trump and aren't confused about why. No one should be.]( Focusing on the disconnect between Trump's personal actions and the moral aspects of their faith misses the issue that keeps their support firm: racism. Modern evangelicals' support for this president cannot be separated from the history of evangelicals' participation in and support for racist structures in America. By [Anthea Butler](. [Democrats' Trump impeachment hysteria in the past will help Republicans ignore Ukraine now]( Trump’s political allies are now doing whatever they can to frame this inquiry as an illegitimate expression of unhinged partisanship, and they do not lack for supporting evidence. For that, impeachment-crazed Democrats have no one to blame but themselves. By [Noah Rothman](, associate editor of COMMENTARY magazine. [Trump's Ukraine whistleblower scandal sets a dangerous DOJ legal precedent]( Although the substance of the complaint — and the scandalous behavior it describes — should be the focus of ongoing investigations, Congress is also very interested in who was involved in trying to withhold the complaint. As House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said during the hearing, subjects of urgent whistleblower complaints — even presidents — should not be able to easily stifle those complaints.
