Sen. Elizabeth Warren [said at an MSNBC town hall]( on Wednesday night that Joe Biden is wrong for supporting a ban on federal funding for abortion and that President Donald Trump "would be carried out in handcuffs" if he were anybody else.
Â
The Massachusetts Democrat and presidential candidate took on the former vice president and 2020 frontrunner for his [longstanding support for the Hyde Amendment](, which bars taxpayer-funded healthcare programs like Medicaid from paying for abortions.
Â
"Yes," Warren responded when MSNBCâs "All In" host Chris Hayes asked if Biden was wrong.Â
Â
"I've lived in an America where abortions were illegal and understand this: Women still got abortions. Now, some got lucky on what happened and some got really unlucky on what happened," Warren said.
Â
"Women of means will still have access to abortions," she added. "Who won't will be poor women, will be working women, will be women who can't afford to take off three days off from work, will be very young women, will be women whoâve been raped, will be women who have been molested by someone in their own family." On President Trump, Warren said she read the [full 448-page report]( from former special counsel Robert Muller and concluded impeachment was necessary.
Â
"I get that this is politically tough," Warren said. "But some things are bigger than politics. This matters for our democracy â not just now, but under the next president, and the next president, and the next president."
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said Wednesday that [heâs âconfidentâ special counsel Robert Mueller will come speak to Congress soon](, and that heâs prepared to issue a subpoena to bring him in, if necessary.
âLet's just say that Iâm confident heâll come in soon,â Nadler said when asked where things stand on the former special counsel's testimony.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi also weighed in on impeachment at her weekly press conference Wednesday, in which she appeared to dismissed criticism about why sheâs still wavering on the idea.
âMake no mistake. We know exactly what path weâre on. We know exactly what actions we need to take. And while that may take more time than some people might want it to take, I respect their impatience,â she said.Â
She added that she travels often throughout the country and said that most people donât know how the impeachment process works.
âDo you know most people think that impeachment means youâre out of office?  They think that you can impeach, youâre gone. And that is completely not true. I may have thought that myself ... 50 years ago. You get impeached and itâs an indictment. When youâre impeaching somebody, you want to make sure you have the strongest possible indictment. Because itâs not the means to the end people think."
Pelosi also suggested that the [tariffs President Donald Trump has threatened to impose on Mexico]( are meant to distract from the Mueller report and Democratic investigative efforts.
âLetâs face what it is: Itâs a distraction from the Mueller report. And it served its purpose, here we are,â she said.
