President Trump's vow to apply tariffs on all Mexican goods might be the last straw. [View in browser]( [Image](  JUNE 4, 2019 Are Republican senators preparing to turn on President Donald Trump's tariffs?  More than half a dozen GOP members [raised concerns]( or asked questions at a Tuesday policy lunch attended by Republican senators and Trump administration lawyers, according to multiple sources, as well as a senator who attended.  President Trump has vowed to apply tariffs on all Mexican goods next week and increase the rate to 25 percent in coming months if Mexico does not substantially halt illegal immigration across the U.S.-Mexican border.  Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged [his party's opposition]( to Trump's plan. "There is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that's for sure," he said. Trump, however, said that the GOP would be "foolish" to try to block his plan.  "I don't think they will do that," Trump said during a news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London. "  Two Republican Senate sources told NBC News that Republican lawmakers and the business community are worried that the White House hasn't fully thought through the possible [economic consequences]( of the proposed tariffs.  "There’s a lot of questions about it," Senate Majority Whip John Thune said earlier Tuesday. "Our members have a lot of concerns." [Image] In the latest in a bitter back-and-forth between the White House and Capitol Hill, [the White House directed former Trump administration officials Hope Hicks and Annie Donaldson not to hand over any documents]( to the House Judiciary Committee related to their time at the White House, two sources told NBC News.  Tuesday was the deadline for Hicks and Donaldson to turn over the documents.  In a statement, Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler said the White House “has no lawful basis for preventing these witnesses from complying with our request."   The subpoenas, issued last month, sought testimony and documents related to the panel's investigation into obstruction of justice, corruption and other potential abuses of power by Trump and members of his administration.  ICYMI: Videos from MSNBC Today [Image]( [Republican senators turn on Trump over Mexico tariffs]( Republican senators signaled Tuesday that President Trump doesn't have the political backing to impose tariffs on Mexican goods, and that they could deal him an embarrassing rebuke if he moves forward. (Hardball) [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Image](  [Trump mistakes thousands of London protesters for well-wishers]( The president claimed that thousands of people lined the streets of London to cheer for him and nobody protested— but the reality was the other way around. But the world should. China’s officials have used every tool at their disposal to muzzle criticism of the crimes the country committed at Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989, but on the 30th anniversary of the massacre, the events the government has tried for decades to erase from the pages of history are deservedly back in the spotlight. by [Frida Ghitis](.  [OPINION](: Ava DuVernay's harrowing Central Park Five Netflix series is a national call to action. DuVernay portrays the all-encompassing and emotionally exhausting struggle for justice.
