With Trumpâs [sentencing]( date set for July 11, just four days before the start of the Republican National Convention, major questions remain unanswered about [Trumpâs legal and political fate](, its [impact on the 2024 election]( and the countryâs future at large. However, one thing that remains clear is that Trump and his [army of allies]( are not going to go quietly, as evidenced by Trumpâs post-verdict press conference, when he peddled [familiar, baseless conspiracies]( about the case and continued his attacks on the judge, jury and rule of law. In a letter to Congress, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito [rejected calls]( to recuse himself from two pending cases involving Trump and Jan. 6 rioters, after facing scrutiny over reports that flags were flown at the Alitosâ homes similar to those carried on Jan. 6. Chief Justice John Roberts also [rejected Senate Democratsâ request]( to meet to discuss ethics issues involving the Supreme Court. On Friday, President Joe Biden outlined a new three-phase proposal to end fighting between Israel and Hamas, including a total cease-fire, the return of hostages and rebuilding of Gaza. The proposal came after the White House said [Israel's deadly airstrike]( on a tent camp for displaced people in Rafah last weekend did not cross [President Biden's "red line.â]( Missed something?
