Over thirty thousand people joined our emergency callâhost an event now to make your voice heard this month.
Dear MoveOn member,
Last night, more than thirty thousand people from all over the country, joined an emergency Ready to Resist organizing call to address the scourge of white supremacists in the United States that was on display in Charlottesville, Virginia, a little over a week ago.
On the call, Tarso Ramos, executive director of Political Research Associates and an expert in the white nationalist movement, said, "If you come for one of us, you have to go through all of us."
Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, who is co-leading the effort in Congress to censure Trump for his horrendous response to the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, called on us to demand that our representatives do more than tweet out remorse.
We have an opportunity this week and next, before members of Congress go back to Washington D.C., to demand action. Partnered organizations and members have already posted more than 500 events as part of the August Resistance Recess.
Will you host a local Resistance Recess event this week and join the chorus of the Resistance against racism, demand Congress censure Trump, and hold Congress accountable for attacks against fundamental needs such as health care?
[Click here if you can host an action in your area between now and September 4 to send a clear message to your members of Congress—Republicans and Democrats—that they work for us. MoveOn will support you every step of the way and recruit other members in your area to join you.](

Over the next two weeks, we have a solid, unequivocal opportunity to bring a message of inclusion, justice, and accountability to our members of Congress, who are home for their August recess from now until September 4. Together, we will make sure that they know that we expect them to act justly and hold this disastrous administration accountable. Already, MoveOn members and allies have been holding actions at the home offices of senators and representatives to make known that THEY WORK FOR US.

Here’s how it works:
-
We show up at our elected officials’ events, town halls, and other public appearances to demand answers we are entitled to as constituents.
-
We will hold Republicans accountable for supporting the attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act—and let them know that when they attack our health care, our communities, and our democracy, it doesn’t go unnoticed.
-
We'll ask Democrats to take strong stands and build momentum for policies we want, such as single-payer Medicare for All. As progressives, we'll demand a forceful, inclusive, populist agenda—resistance alone isn't enough.
-
When lawmakers hide from their constituents by not scheduling public events, we will hold our own. We'll hold "People’s Speak-outs" to highlight the members of Congress who won’t even hear from the people they supposedly represent.
Can we count on you? [Click here to see if there is already a Resistance Recess action in your area]( or [click here to organize an event near you](.
More than twenty movement partners, including Color of Change, Indivisible, the Working Families Party, the Center for Popular Democracy, People’s Action, and United We Dream joined the call to offer participants insight on white supremacy and tangible approaches to combating racism and white nationalism in all forms. As Eric Ward, Senior Fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center said yesterday, "building an inclusive democracy" is the goal of the movement through creative responses that include vigils, protests, and counter-protests and also effective advocacy and policies introduced by our elected officials.
You can also join in the effort to fight white nationalism in our country. [You can start by joining thousands in signing the petition to censure Trump.]( There are two weeks left in the August congressional recess. There is still time, while your member of Congress is home, to show up and let them know that racism and white nationalism have no place in the United States of America.
Thanks for all you do.
