George Santos should resign immediately, but that won't happen without enormous pressure, because Kevin McCarthy and the Republicans can't afford to lose any votes with their slim, five-vote majority. Dear MoveOn member,  Republican Congressman-elect George Santos has been caught in a stunning avalanche of bald-faced lies. George Santos should resign immediately, but that won't happen without enormous pressure, because Kevin McCarthy and the Republicans can't afford to lose any votes with their slim, five-vote majority. But Santos is facing an enormous grassroots outcry in his district, and if we can turn up the heat, we can force him to resign—while building momentum in a district that will be key to Democrats' reclaiming the House in just two years. If we can raise enough money, we will launch a series of "Santos, Resign" billboards in his district while flooding his office with phone calls. Will you donate $3 to help demand George Santos resign from Congress? [Yes, I'll donate now.]( Here are just some of Santos's lies: - He said he worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs and went to NYU and Baruch College, but those were lies.1 - He claimed to have founded an animal rescue charity called "Friends of Pets United" that saved more than 2,500 dogs and cats, but no such charity exists.2 - He said he's Jewish and that his grandparents survived the Holocaust, but none of that is true.3 - He's facing criminal charges in Brazil for stealing from a man his mother was caring for—charges that Brazilian authorities still intend to press.4 - He claimed that his mother died on 9/11, even though in fact she died in 2016.5 Just as damning is how he's responded to these revelations. He takes no accountability, offers no apology, and doubles down on his attacks against "elite" media—a page out of the Trump playbook to shirk all responsibility for his actions. And if this is how he acts when he campaigns, we have to imagine he'll continue the same vein of mendacity in his miserable attempts to serve. Let's be clear: There's only one reason why George Santos hasn't already resigned: power. If Santos resigns, Democrats would have a real shot at flipping the seat in a special election. Even by the standards of today's Republican Party, George Santos is a shameless con artist. The voters of his district were the victims of a massive fraud, and they must be given the chance to be represented by someone who is qualified to serve them. The key to getting rid of Santos is to make enough noise that Republicans and Santos himself decide that they're better off without him than trying to push forward with him. And there's a real chance that could happen. In fact, one outgoing Republican member of Congress has already said he should "consider resigning."6 And at the first gathering of the House just yesterday, Republican colleagues avoided speaking with, sitting near, or being photographed with him. They know his brand is toxic. [Bottom line: George Santos is a con artist and a fraud, and he should resign immediately. Will you donate $3 to help fund ads and billboards in his district, demanding he resign?]( Thanks for all you do. –Justin, Allison, Ankur, Corinne, and the rest of the team Sources: 1.
