We wish there was a way to sugarcoat this, but nonpartisan election expert Nate Silver is now saying

We wish there was a way to sugarcoat this, but nonpartisan election expert Nate Silver is now saying Republicans have a 79% chance of winning the U.S. House of Representatives this November. Dear MoveOn member, We wish there were a way to sugarcoat this, but nonpartisan election expert Nate Silver is now saying Republicans have a 79% chance of winning the U.S. House of Representatives this November.1 A 79% chance of Republicans investigating Attorney General Merrick Garland for approving an FBI raid to retrieve top-secret documents, including nuclear secrets, from Trump's Mar-a-Lago home, instead of investigating Trump. A 79% chance of Republicans working day and night to impeach President Joe Biden, instead of working day and night to protect abortion rights. A 79% chance of Republicans putting more guns on our streets, ending marriage equality, and worsening the climate crisis. A 79% chance of Republicans handing Trump a second term by throwing out the Electoral College results even if Trump loses in 2024. The one piece of good news is that thanks to the efforts of MoveOn and so many others who understand the grave consequences of this upcoming election, those odds are actually better than the 90% Silver was projecting in June.2 And that trend will continue if we keep working together to energize voters and get them to the polls. [Will you make a $3 donation today to help us stop Kevin McCarthy from becoming speaker of the House and Donald Trump from returning to the White House?]( Because we must do everything possible to stop the GOP from taking control of Congress, MoveOn has made the unprecedented decision to invest $30 million in the midterms, the largest amount in our history. We knew early that this year was going to be tough, and our work is paying off. After months spent predicting that Mitch McConnell would take back control of the Senate, polls now indicate that Democrats are favored to maintain the majority.3 We can do the same with the House, but only with your help. Our plan takes traditional grassroots work—phone banking, door knocking, yard signs—and mixes in state-of-the-art microtargeting of the precise voters we need through digital ads, SMS texting, and direct contact through family and friends. Add in our aggressive TV and persuasion campaigns, and we are prepared to turn out the voters who will help us win: The same young voters, voters of color, and marginalized voters who led to the blue wave in 2018 and Donald Trump's defeat in 2020. But we can't do it without you. MoveOn is not funded by billionaires and corporate PAC dollars; we are funded by regular folks like you who are able to chip in $5, $10, or $25 to support our work. Please give $3 today, or whatever you can afford, so we can stop the Republican takeover of the U.S. House. [Yes, I'll chip in.]( In 2020, we organized, volunteered, and voted to keep American democracy alive. We fought for an America that holds up Black and brown voices, that celebrates the humanity of LGBTQ+ youth and people of all ages, that sees trans families and disabled people as our strength. In the coming months, we must work to elect public servants who will uphold and strengthen these values and stand up to those who are hellbent on undermining them. And we will. Thanks for all you do. –Chris, Kathy, Thad, Amy, and the rest of the team Sources: 1. "Republicans are favored to win the House," FiveThirtyEight, accessed August 16, 2022 [ 2. Ibid. 3. Donald Trump and his allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort. Will you chip in to power our campaign to defeat Trump and the GOP in 2022?
