According to bombshell new testimony before the congressional committee investigating the January 6

According to bombshell new testimony before the congressional committee investigating the January 6 insurrection, Donald Trump's top White House staff, including Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, were directly involved in planning the march that led to the attack on the Capitol that day. Dear MoveOn member, According to bombshell new testimony before the congressional committee investigating the January 6 insurrection, Donald Trump's top White House staff, including Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, were directly involved in planning the march that led to the attack on the Capitol that day.1 This is the most direct evidence yet that the January 6 attack was just what we thought: a violent coup planned at the highest levels of the White House—and it's a terrifying reminder of how much danger our democracy remains in right now. In fact, Trump has begun talking openly about how he plans to steal the 2024 presidential election, and one of his most dangerous strategies is to install allies in key state offices that oversee elections, count votes, and declare winners and losers. Far-right white supremacists are running for secretary of state with Trump's official endorsement all over the country, including in battleground states like Wisconsin, Georgia, and Arizona.2 Should they win, they'll be positioned to do exactly what Trump asked Georgia's secretary of state to do in 2020: ignore the legitimate election results and reinstall Trump in the White House. That's why MoveOn is doing something we've never done in our 23-year history: We're launching a powerful, multimillion-dollar effort to defeat Trump-backed secretaries of state across the country and elect individuals who will count every vote and ensure fair elections. But we can't pull it off without your support. Can you chip in $5 a month to help defeat Trump-backed secretaries of state and stop Trump's next coup? [Yes, I'll chip in monthly.]( [No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.]( Ever since January 6, Trump and his inner circle have desperately tried to insulate themselves from any of the blame for the deadly assault on the Capitol that day. Now, eyewitness Scott Johnston has come forward and told the January 6 committee that, in fact, the White House was in on it from the start. According to Johnston's testimony, Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson spoke to insurrection leaders on the phone before the rally and urged them to march on the Capitol. They also directed them to "make it look like they went down there on their own" so that Trump wouldn't be personally implicated in the violence.3 But instead of being held accountable, Mark Meadows wrote a best-selling book. In fact, none of the top-level coup organizers has faced serious repercussions, and Trump has promised to pardon the January 6 insurrectionists if he's reinstalled in the White House in 2024. And he's getting behind a slate of candidates for secretary of state who will do his bidding and "find the votes" he needs to regain power.4 Trump is saying all of this right out in the open at his rallies.5 But like so many times before, the mainstream media is refusing to take his threats seriously. We cannot allow Trump loyalists to oversee our elections. The survival of our democracy is on the line. That's why we've launched a massive campaign to defeat Trump-backed candidates for secretary of state and elect honest officials who will count every vote and respect the will of the people. But unlike the GOP, we don't have giant corporations behind us. We're powered by people and tens of thousands of small monthly donations. Can you chip in $5 a month to help defeat Trump-backed secretaries of state and stop Trump's next coup? [Yes, I'll chip in monthly.]( [No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.]( Thanks for all you do. –Chris, Tzyh, Mana, Emma, and the rest of the team Sources: 1. Donald Trump and his allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort. Will you chip in monthly to power our campaign to defeat Trump and the GOP in 2022?
