Make no mistake: This is not just Trump. This is the modern Republican Party, and we cannot allow them back into power. Not this Republican Party. Ever. Dear fellow MoveOn member, The conspiracy theories spinning out of Donald Trump and his inner circle just keep getting more and more unhinged.1 Sources close to Trump say he still expects the election to be overturned through Republican-commissioned ballot audits ... and The New York Times and The Washington Post report that Trump believes he will be reinstated as president by August.2,3 Meanwhile disgraced former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has openly speculated about the possibility of a Myanmar-style coup in the United States, while Senate Republicans just defended Trump by filibustering the bipartisan commission on the January 6 insurrection and Republican state legislatures continue to push the most sweeping assault on voting rights since Jim Crow.4,5 And to make matters worse, Trump is re-launching his conspiracy-filled campaign-style rallies this summer, starting with a speech in North Carolina last Saturday.6 Make no mistake: This is not just Trump. This is the modern Republican Party, and we cannot allow them back into power. Not this Republican Party. Ever. Control of the House and Senate are up for grabs in the midterm elections, and MoveOn is building a war chest to replicate the grassroots get-out-the-vote effort that was so successful in 2020. Will you chip in $5 a month to MoveOn to help stop the Trump Republican Party from winning control of the House and Senate in 2022? [Yes, I'll chip in.]( [No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.]( Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven out of the last eight presidential elections. And yet because of gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the Republican bias in the U.S. Senate, they are terrifyingly close to winning back both houses of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections. Imagine what members of Congress like pro-QAnon Representatives Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene would do if Republicans had the majority and the power to subpoena witnesses. Or what senators like Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz would do if they were allowed to chair committee hearings. We could see the racist lies and conspiracy theories currently confined to fringe corners of the internet thrust into the halls of Congress and given official legitimacy. The election fraud lies that sparked the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol would be once again lifted up front and center at the highest levels of our government. The January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol showed how much danger our democracy is in. By blocking the bipartisan January 6 commission and tossing Liz Cheney out of leadership, Republicans have doubled down on Trump and his lies. We must do everything we can to make sure these people are never allowed back in power. Please, will you chip in $5 a month—or whatever you can—to help support MoveOn's campaign to stop Republicans from taking back control of Congress? Every little bit helps. [Yes, I'll chip in.]( [No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.]( Thanks for all you do. –Robert Reich Sources: 1. "Donald Trump is getting worse," CNN, June 3, 2021 [ 2.
