While the House has passed a bill to create an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection, GOP senators are doing everything they can to block the investigation of the white supremacist mob that invaded the Capitol, left several people dead, and tried to overthrow the results of a democratic election. Dear MoveOn member, While the House has passed a bill to create an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection, GOP senators are doing everything they can to block the investigation of the white supremacist mob that invaded the Capitol, left several people dead, and tried to overthrow the results of a democratic election.1 Why? Because they are afraid it will give Donald Trump bad press and hurt the GOP's chances in the midterms.2 We can't let these cowards—who would rather curry favor with Trump than protect our democracy—continue to serve in office. Which is why MoveOn is running a huge campaign to toss the seditionists out of office in 2022. We have a big plan to go after vulnerable GOP senators in key states—like Ron Johnson in Wisconsin and Marco Rubio in Florida—but we can't pull it off without you. [Will you rush a $3 donation to help launch hard-hitting TV ads and billboards, run bold get-out-the-vote efforts, and do whatever else it takes to win in 2022?]( The right wing is coming out in full force to oppose the January 6 commission, with many even claiming that the violent extremists who invaded the Capitol were "peaceful patriots" or just "tourists."3 Trump himself is urging the GOP to oppose the investigation. And on his Fox News show, Tucker Carlson dismissed the insurrection and urged the Senate GOP to vote against the commission. Carlson said the rioters—who carried with them chemical weapons and zip ties and talked about assassinating lawmakers—merely "wandered freely through the Capitol."4 This is the despicable behavior of a Republican Party that is terrified. They're terrified that an official investigation will reveal the truth. The far right knows that Trump—along with Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Ron Johnson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and others—helped instigate the attack on the Capitol. And they're terrified that this investigation will officially establish the GOP as the party of violence and sedition. Which is why they're pulling out every trick in the book to stop the investigation. But we won't let them get away with it. We're holding them accountable at the ballot box. [Join the effort to defeat the seditionists in the 2022 midterms by chipping in $3 today.]( We know that you might be thinking that the midterm elections are still 18 months away and that it's too early to begin campaigning. But the GOP is already raising millions to defeat Democrats in 2022. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the QAnon congresswoman who once called for the execution of Nancy Pelosi, just raised more money than any other first-year member of Congress in U.S. history.5 And that doesn't count the tens of millions of dollars right-wing billionaires and corporations will shovel into attack ads and smear campaigns against Democrats—all to reinstall Mitch McConnell as Senate majority leader and win control of the House. [Which means we need to fight back, starting right now. Please, chip in $3, or whatever you can, to defeat the seditionists in Congress.]( Thanks for all you do. –Chris, Sana, Amanda, Lisa, and the rest of the team Sources: 1.
