You don't hear from me over email very often because I work mostly on our SMS program. That's right?

You don't hear from me over email very often because I work mostly on our SMS program. That's right—I'm one of the folks sending text messages asking you to act. And I've seen us send texts on a whole host of issues—so I see firsthand when the energy of MoveOn members is high. Dear MoveOn member, My name's Erica, and you don't hear from me over email very often because I work mostly on MoveOn's text message program. That's right—I'm one of the folks sending text messages asking activists like you to act. MoveOn sends texts on a whole host of issues, and I see firsthand when the energy of MoveOn members is high. I can definitively tell you: MoveOn members across the country are fired up over impeachment, and our actions are working. As of tonight, a majority of the House of Representatives supports an impeachment inquiry!1 And I'm asking you to help fuel the fire by pitching in to MoveOn's efforts to compel Democrats in Congress off the sidelines and into the impeachment fight. Will you donate now to help fund the MoveOn Mobile Team's effort to generate more phone calls and other constituent pressure that will push wait-and-see Democrats off the sidelines and into a full-throated effort to support Donald Trump's impeachment? [Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford.]( After this weekend's revelations about Trump's latest criminal acts inviting foreign interference in our democracy, I sent out a text alert to the 100 districts that still had House Democrats on the sidelines over impeachment. (That's right—there were that many Democrats for whom Donald Trump's obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and rampant corruption just weren't enough reason to impeach.) Within minutes, MoveOn members had generated 500 phone calls. We even heard some MoveOn members couldn't get through! Now, here's why this is important: We got to 218 representatives in favor of an impeachment inquiry—an absolute majority and enough to impeach Trump in the House—in just a few days. We never could have changed the minds of 100 representatives so fast without activists like you, {NAME}! But our fight's only getting started. Many of these sideline Democrats who came out for an impeachment inquiry are from districts where they just aren't sure if their constituents favor actually following through with impeachment. Sad to say, even in the face of Trump's clear crimes and corruption, some Democrats are hedging. A few are holding out entirely. Others support a narrow investigation, but it's not clear if they're with us all the way. But when they hear from constituents telling them, "Go for it already!," it gives them the backup they need to know that if they stick out their necks on this, we'll be there to support them. In March, when special counsel Robert Mueller announced that he'd finished his investigation, MoveOn members made 10,000 calls in one day to their representatives, asking for the full Mueller report. In April, when Attorney General William Barr released his redacted report, MoveOn members made another 5,000 calls to their representatives in just hours, demanding the full report. Every time a House Committee has had a hearing—from witness testimony to approving impeachment inquiry rules—MoveOn members have made thousands of calls urging their representatives to do something about Trump's crimes. That's more than 40,000 calls made by MoveOn members like you in 2019, and all of this pushing and encouraging is making a difference. But here's the thing: Every single message we send asking activists like you to make a phone call to your representative costs money. And we also have expenses for our small but mighty SMS team, technology and servers for our SMS platform, and development on our open source tool called Spoke, that allows MoveOn volunteers to send person-to-person text messages to drive more action. Just last month we were a leading partner in "Impeachment August," holding events and calling on lawmakers to take a stand—and flooding them with calls driven by our text program, which led to the most new support for impeachment from members of Congress in a single month since the start of Trump's presidency! Many lawmakers explained that they did it after hearing from voters. That's right, these calls make a difference! And, now, 218 representatives support an impeachment inquiry! That's the magic number: the majority we need to impeach Trump! But we still need to urge all 218 representatives to actually vote FOR impeachment, which is a much, much higher hurdle and will require our ongoing efforts over the days, weeks, and months ahead. The goods news is that we're making huge progress and after the latest news, energy remains high. Call volume is high. And this is a moment where we can push more members of Congress to the right side of history, and then follow up to keep them there. Will you donate now to help fund the MoveOn Mobile Team's effort to generate more phone calls and other constituent pressure that will push the wait-and-see Democrats off the sidelines and into a full-throated impeachment fight? [Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford.]( We need your help to: - Send more SMS alerts—including actions from our Volunteer Text Team through which MoveOn members individually reach out to folks in key districts. But every SMS we send has a cost! - Use our email and social reach to generate even more calls—and our other teams are also busy alerting our activists. - Expand our operation—with social media and videos pushing calls, and even funding efforts to call progressive voters from the voter file to ask them to take action. And, of course, it's not just phone calls. We're running ads, swarming the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, preparing for a massive week of action across the country next week while members of Congress are on recess, and gearing up to increase the pressure when Congress returns. All of this requires support—and every dollar that comes in has real impact in terms of the number of calls we help generate, the number of online graphics that we can boost to reach more people, the number of ads we can place in local markets, and, more generally, the work we can do to connect constituents with their members of Congress. Will you donate now to help fund the MoveOn Mobile Team and the rest of our efforts to generate more phone calls and apply constituent pressure to push wait-and-see Democrats off the sidelines and into a full-throated impeachment fight? Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
