The movement against gun violence is growing thanks to students and MoveOn members like you. Dear MoveOn member, Since the tragic attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, MoveOn members have stepped up and taken powerful action in support of student-led organizing and the movement to end gun violence. Below are just a few ways MoveOn members have already invested time, energy, and financial resources over the past month—and a look at what's ahead. [{NAME}, you can also help guide what's next by starting a petition to build power on an issue you care about in your community or nationwide.]( Holding politicians accountable - Hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members have called on Congress to pass a ban on assault weapons and petitioned Florida Legislature to take action—including joining a delivery to Florida lawmakers with the Florida Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, the Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus, and local students (pictured above). - More than 10,000 Florida MoveOn members have directed outrage over the National Rifle Association's influence on Senator Marco Rubio, and others are starting similar petitions to their elected officials across the country. - And MoveOn members are helping deliver a ballot-box rebuke this November to NRA-backed candidates by investing deeply in MoveOn's 2018 "Resist and Win" electoral program to end GOP control of Congress. Next week, we'll be launching billboards in key districts challenging Republican lawmakers to choose constituents over the NRA, or be held accountable. [Click here to find out if your elected federal officials are taking NRA money and start your own petition asking them to reject the NRA if one doesn’t already exist.]( Corporate pressure - More than 170,000 MoveOn members signed the petition asking FedEx to end its relationship with the NRA, joining an effort with Guns Down and key ally Color of Change to keep pressure on the company for the long haul. So far, more than 20 corporations have already cut sponsorships to the NRA as a result of widespread organizing by consumers and advocacy organizations. - MoveOn members also made thousands of calls to First National Bank, which helped lead to an end to their Visa card partnership with the NRA, making the bank one of the first major corporations to drop the NRA in the aftermath of the Parkland massacre. And we're continuing the pressure on FedEx, Amazon, Bass Pro Shops, and other corporations after Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart took steps in the right direction. [Will you sign and share the petition demanding that FedEx end its business alliance with the NRA?]( Youth power on the streets - Many of the most transformative social movements in America have been led by young people. The growing movement to end gun violence is no exception, led by students across the country. MoveOn members are mobilizing to support the student-led [March for Our Lives on March 24]( in Washington, D.C., and more than 500 cities around the country. - MoveOn will also support and amplify the voices of young people using video and social media for the [March 14 #Enough National School Walkout]( and the [April 20 #NationalSchoolWalkout]( days of action.1 [Click here to learn how MoveOn's petition platform can be a powerful organizing resource for students, teachers, and community members to launch campaigns against gun violence.]( Amplifying the message - MoveOn's in-house Video Lab has produced, livestreamed, cross-posted, or shared 67 videos which have been viewed more than 7 million times. One of our videographers [livestreamed a student-led school walkout]( that broadcast student voices and energy to over 2 million viewers in a matter of days. - Local efforts by MoveOn members generated media attention as well. For instance, an Alabama MoveOn member did a [great interview]( about his petition calling for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funding on gun violence research. Another member's petition asking an Ohio businessman to step down from the American Outdoor Brands’ board (formerly Smith & Wesson) received [coverage]( as well. - MoveOn is also distributing more than 30,000 "I stand with students" anti-gun violence stickers for free—so members around the country have a visible demonstration of their support for students in Parkland and elsewhere who are standing up to the NRA. [Click here to check out our limited quantity of "I stand with students" sticker designs and order a bulk pack for your community.]( The movement to prevent gun violence is a long fight, but we know MoveOn members can be counted on to go the distance. For example, after a shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon in 2015, MoveOn members organized for gun control—identifying well over 30,000 MoveOn members who owned guns and supported new gun laws. MoveOn members Emily Landers and David Taylor, who helped lead the gun-owners-for-gun-control work, stood with President Obama when he signed an executive action to reduce gun violence in 2016. We know there can be victories—but we also know the tragedies continue to be far too numerous. That's why, together, we continue to fight—in Washington, over the airwaves, outside corporate headquarters, in the streets, at local congressional offices, and at the polls this November. [Want to do more, but not sure where to start? Think about one problem you’d like to fix in your community, start a petition to your mayor, city council, or school board, and then share it with five friends.]( Thanks for all you do. –Michael, Pulin, Emma, Maria and the rest of the team 1. By choosing to attend this event, you are committing to participate nonviolently and in accordance with the law, to work to de-escalate confrontations with others, and to obey the orders of authorized event marshals and of law enforcement. You also acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any injury or damage to your person or property resulting from or occurring during this event and that you release all event sponsors and organizers (and their officers, directors, employees, and agents) from any liability for that injury or damage. Want to support our work? The MoveOn community will work every moment, day by day and year by year, to resist Trump's agenda, contain the damage, defeat hate with love, and begin the process of swinging the nation's pendulum back toward sanity, decency, and the kind of future that we must never give up on. And to do it we need your ongoing support, now more than ever. Will you stand with us? [Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month.]( [No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.]( --------------------------------------------------------------- PAID FOR BY MOVEON.ORG POLITICAL ACTION, .
