[Forward to a friend]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [YouTube]( [RSS]( Running the Indianapolis 500 in August is hardly traditional, but Friday’s Carb Day is always your best barometer of who’ll be hot or not in Sunday’s belated 104th running. Who’s hot? Former winners Alexander Rossi, Scott Dixon and Takuma Sato were in the top five in final practice and all appeared to have excellently balanced cars in race trim. Pato O’Ward set the pace overall, which bodes well for his McLaren SP teammate Fernando Alonso despite his 26th starting spot – although Fernando was outside the top 20 again today. Who’s not? Marco Andretti will start from the pole on Sunday but did not like his car’s race setup at all today and was only 28th fastest. Apart from Josef Newgarden – a “cautiously optimistic” seventh today – the rest of the Penske quartet again struggled for speed. It’s such a super-competitive field, you’ve got to bring your 225mph A-game on Sunday or you’ll be nowhere.
