Saturday brings my favourite hour of the year – qualifying at Monaco, where the world’s best drivers play to a packed house of beautiful people and lay it all on the line with zero margin for error. We’ve been served an enticing practice day already, with Red Bull leading the way over Ferrari and Mercedes. Engine modes will be cranked up to the maximum in Q3, so will Red Bull’s margin be enough? The race, as ever, will likely be a procession – unless there’s a safety car at an awkward point, massive degradation or graining with the hypersoft tyre or a pitstop snafu such as the one that ruined Daniel Ricciardo’s hopes in 2016.
