The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     March 1, 2024 "Embryos, to me, are babies." That's how Nikki Haley [responded]( just a week ago to the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling that frozen embryos are considered children under state law. But now, following a national outcry over the impacts it could have on people undergoing IVF treatment, Haley—and many other Republicans—are changing their tune. “I think there should be federal protection that we allow for IVF places to be able to function…I think the only thing the federal government should do is make sure IVF places are protected or available,” Haley [said]( in an interview on CNN today. The irony, though, is that Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) [introduced]( a bill on Wednesday that would've done just that—and Republicans killed it. Haley, of course, appeared to feign ignorance when asked about it today. “I don’t know the details of any of the bills,” she said. “So I can’t weigh into that.” [Read more]( to get the fuller picture on Republicans' latest flip-flop, and how their support for the [overturning]( of Roe v.
