The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     January 4, 2024 Do you consider Donald Trump to be a "person of faith"? I'll take a wild guess here (based on my knowledge of Mother Jones readers) and assume...no. But if you're a Republican, a negative response would put you in your party's minority: 64 percent of Republicans consider Trump a "person of faith," according to the [results]( of a new Deseret News/HarrisX poll, one of two polls out this week that show the extent to which Republicans are standing by their man. The other poll, conducted by the [Washington Post-University of Maryland](, found that Republicans today are more likely to be sympathetic to Trump regarding his involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, compared to the week after the insurrection: Fourteen percent of GOP respondents said last month that Trump bears a great or good amount of responsibility for the deadly insurrection, compared to 27 percent who said the same nearly three years ago. Another stark finding: only 31 percent of Republicans surveyed said they believe President Biden was legitimately elected in 2020, compared to 39 percent in 2021—and, overall, 36 percent of Americans don’t accept Biden’s presidency as legitimate. “From a historical perspective, these results would be chilling to many analysts,” Michael J. Hanmer, director of the Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement at the University of Maryland, [told]( the Post. To read more about the findings of the new polls, check out our story below. There's one other thing it seems most voters, regardless of party, agree on: 70 percent of Americans don’t think Trump will accept the results of this year’s election, the Post found, should he lose. —Julianne McShane Advertisement [House Subscriptions Ad]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [Republicans Are Standing by Their Man]( They also think he's a "person of faith."
