It’s no surprise that denying people the right to bodily autonomy is a violation of the human rights to life, to privacy, to be free from discrimination and torture, and more. But it’s significant that [the UN Human Rights Committee has issued this official conclusion—in response to testimony from Ipas and our partners this fall](. The committee says the U.S. government should take immediate action to end the criminalization of abortion at the federal, state and local levels. At Ipas, we’re already making plans with some of our U.S.-based partners to take action on the committee’s recommendations. Early next year, we’ll begin working with state legislators to develop and introduce state-level bills that will make abortion legal and accessible. This is exciting and urgent work that will make a significant impact on the lives of millions of Americans. Ipas is the only international reproductive justice organization solely focused on expanding access to abortion and contraception. You may not have heard of us before, and that’s because we’ve spent the last 50 years working outside the U.S. to ensure people have the reproductive freedom they deserve. We’ve played a leading role in the expansion of abortion access in some of the most restricted settings in the world. Now, with the overturn of Roe v. Wade, we’re putting our global expertise to work in the U.S. We’re helping ensure people can get an abortion now if they need one by supporting fledgling grassroots organizations that offer vital information on how to access an abortion in their communities. And we’re working hard to help build the coalitions, skilled advocates and grassroots movements that will win back abortion rights for the next generation of Americans. With the holidays fast approaching, will you make a donation to Ipas to support reproductive freedom today and in the years ahead? You can also donate to Ipas in someone’s honor—a meaningful and unique gift for someone who cares about abortion rights. [DONATE NOW]( In our 50 years as an organization, we’ve learned a simple but powerful truth: Abortion affects every body. When every person has reproductive freedom, all of society benefits. Together, we can work to make that a reality.
