Help protect civilians [Amnesty International candle logo]( [HELP PROTECT CIVILIANS AND EXPOSE WAR CRIMES »]( Dear friend, With the Israeli military offensive in Gaza and violence increasing in the West Bank and Israel, Amnesty’s crisis investigation teams are on the ground and our Crisis Evidence Lab is working as quickly as possible to verify evidence in real time in order to expose war crimes, protect civilians, and seek accountability for crimes committed. [Amnesty International’s top priority right now is to protect civilians and prevent further suffering in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Israel, and around the world — and we need your help.]( When entire families are killed by indiscriminate airstrikes, we must respond. When communities are intentionally cut off from food, fuel, water, and medical supplies, we must respond. When civilians are targeted, killed, and taken hostage, we must respond. The information I’m sharing with you today — based on the evidence we’re gathering on the ground and through our Crisis Evidence Lab — will barely scratch the surface of the violations that Amnesty is documenting in Gaza, the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Israel. Right now, we need more resources to sustain our investigations and advocacy. [Your MATCHED donation can help us expose human rights violations, protect civilians, and demand accountability in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Israel, and around the world »]( Palestinians evacuate the area following an Israeli airstrike on the Sousi mosque in Gaza City on October 9, 2023. (Photo by Mahmud HAMS / AFP) (Photo by MAHMUD HAMS/AFP via Getty Images) Our most recent investigation of unlawful Israeli military attacks in Gaza — including on residential buildings, a refugee camp, a family home and a public market — reveal damning evidence of war crimes. In one case, Israeli forces struck a residential building. Fifteen members of the al-Dos family were killed in the attack, seven of them children. Baby Adam, just 18 months old, was the youngest victim.1 A neighbor, who shared he had not received warning from Israeli forces, nor had anyone in his family, said: “It was sudden, boom, nobody told us anything.” We’re also continuing to investigate the October 7 attacks in southern Israel carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups. We verified videos that show armed men shooting at civilians and taking people as hostages. Amnesty spoke with a 22-year-old survivor of the brutal assault on the Nova Music Festival. He hid himself, buried among the trees, and heard constant shooting.2 [DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT]( As we continue to conduct our investigations, combat disinformation, and shine a spotlight on human rights violations, we’re also: - Calling for an immediate ceasefire by all parties in the occupied Gaza Strip and Israel to prevent further loss of civilian lives and to ensure access to life-saving aid for people in Gaza amidst an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe; - Calling for an immediate end to unlawful attacks that kill or injure civilians and urging President Biden to use his influence with the Israeli government to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and urgently help de-escalate the violence; - Demanding the lifting of restrictions on delivery of urgent humanitarian aid, including fuel, food and medical supplies, to the Gaza Strip in sufficient quantities to meet the dire needs of the civilian population, and urging the Israeli government to immediately restore Gaza’s supply of electricity, water, fuel, and food and rescind the unlawful evacuation order; - Demanding that Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups in Gaza release all civilian hostages unconditionally and immediately and refrain from firing indiscriminate rockets into Israel; - Calling on the Israeli government to lift the unlawful 16-year blockade on Gaza, and dismantle its system of apartheid imposed over Palestinians; - Demanding the immediate suspension of the direct and indirect supply, sale, or transfer to the Israeli government of all weapons, munitions, and other military and security equipment; - Pushing for the International Criminal Court to urgently expedite its ongoing investigation into evidence of war crimes and other crimes under international law; With evidence still emerging, our crisis response teams will continue to investigate the situation and document war crimes while our communications, advocacy and campaigning teams will help turn that evidence into action. This is the type of work you support when you make a donation to Amnesty. Right now, we need more resources to sustain our investigations and advocacy. [By donating today, you’re keeping our independent work going around the world and helping us press for action to prevent further human rights violations.]( We’ll continue to keep you informed on our latest findings and opportunities to take action. Thank you always, Paul O’Brien Executive Director Amnesty International USA P.S. Our award-winning research and advocacy holds those who break international humanitarian and human rights laws accountable... and brings justice for those whose human rights are violated. But we can only do this work with grassroots support from people like you — [support our ability to respond to crises around the world through our research and advocacy with a contribution today.]( [1] [( [2] [( [DONATE NOW]( © 2023 Amnesty International USA 311 W 43rd Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036 | 1-800-AMNESTY [Mother Jones]( Mother Jones and its nonprofit publisher, the Foundation for National Progress, do not endorse any political candidate, political organization, commercial product, process, or service, and the views expressed in this communication do not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by Mother Jones.
