[EMERGENCY IN GAZA: RUSH YOUR SUPPORT TO HELP SAVE LIVES]( [DONATE NOW]( Friend, Last weekend, we watched in horror as Hamas committed brutal acts of violence in Israel. Oxfam stands alongside those calling for an end to this crisis, the immediate release of the captured, and accountability for the perpetrators. The terrifying escalation of violence since then is now leaving people in Gaza in urgent need of humanitarian support. Conditions are worsening by the hour. This morning, we received a number of new reports from Oxfam team members in the region that are both horrifying and heartbreaking. Sheltering with his family at a school in Gaza, our colleague reports that âthe situation has become incredibly catastrophic.â Clean drinking water has run out, so people are fetching water from agricultural wells that is not safe to drink. Bathrooms have had no water for days, but are being used by thousands in the shelter. There is no food. Families have been separated from one another. This is having a devastating psychological toll on top of the humanitarian disaster. [A Palestinian ambulance was destroyed by airstrikes in the Al Remal neighborhood in Gaza City. Credit Marwan sawwaf/Alef MultiMedia/Oxfam Another colleague, Omar Ghrieb, who is fleeing from the north reports; âthe streets are frantically busy⦠like a sea made of peopleâ¦people holding children, holding sick people, just walking and walking under the sun.â Oxfam is a global organization that provides lifesaving support in times of crisis and fights inequality to end poverty and injustice. We have worked in Gaza for decades, helping Palestinian women, men, and youth improve their economic prospects, combat gender-based violence, and ensure access to basic needs and fundamental rights. Even before these attacks, eight out of 10 people in Gaza were reliant on international aid. At present, the borders into Gaza remain closed and Oxfam is not able to move aid into the regionâbut we are urgently calling on Israel to allow humanitarian access, and are doing everything possible to be ready to respond as soon as it is safe, prioritizing access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene items, food, and other essentials.
