The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( September 1, 2023 Howdy, readers. If you're a longtime subscriber to this newsletter, you'll know that I've been one of its main writers since it launched in 2020. Today, sadly, is my last day at Mother Jones. I'm leaving to pursue a master's degree in Latin American studies at UCLA, a goal I've had since I left undergrad. I am very excited to take courses in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, now spoken by about 1.7 million people. People keep asking me what exactly I'm going to do with this knowledge, and I tell them, I don't know! "Learns for the sake of learning" was very good feedback to get on report cards in elementary school, but as soon as I entered adulthood, I noticed that a lot of people see the pursuit of anything that isn't potentially lucrative as a waste of time. Maybe I am young and idealistic and foolish, but I haven't heard many people say that they regret continuing their education. Still, I'm going to miss MoJo, and I'm especially going to miss the community that has coalesced around this newsletter. It always astonishes me, in the best way, that the Mother Jones Daily has found such a strong and devoted audience. Hearing your replies, whether they be words of encouragement or constructive criticism, has made me feel like the daily churn is worthwhile. There is one reader response that has really stuck with me. I asked you all what your environmental guilty pleasures were, and one reader said that she broke her long streak of vegetarianism when she stopped at Chick-fil-A and ordered a chicken sandwich and a milkshake after visiting her husband in the hospital. What a perfect response! Now, whenever I drive by Chick-fil-A, I think of how good that sandwich must have tasted to someone who was probably emotionally and physically drained. I really hope that, out of the hundreds of newsletters I've written for Mother Jones, a single line might have stuck with you, as well. I'm still on Twitter at @[abigailweinberg](.
