The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     April 28, 2023 In recent days, scenes from Beef, the Netflix comedy starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, have bounced around my head. The show is centered around a road rage incident involving the two main characters, both plagued by a seething, barely contained fury, who begin to seek vengeance on one another through a series of escalating, shocking behavior. Though I consider myself a pretty levelheaded person, there are more moments when my own driving behavior surprises me. I start imagining a world where I didn't have to get in a car in order to complete daycare pick-up, buy groceries, or simply function. But having left city life, such a scenario is nearly impossible. So how did we become a country where driving is vexing, even lethal, that punishes people who don't drive? Where road rage is an exceedingly common occurrence? My newsletter co-pilot, Abigail Weinberg, has an [excellent collection of articles on Pocket exploring]( those very questions. The result is a snapshot of the captivating stories behind our everyday transit laws, including "[right turn on red](," and the avoidable tragedies we have the power to prevent—but don't. The thing I love most about this project is it offers a real glimpse into how Abigail's curiosity, as an avid bike rider and public transportation fan, informs her reporting. Pocket, a [website and app]( that finds the most thought-provoking articles from trusted sources all around the internet and puts them in one place, is the perfect place for that kind of insight and discovery. [With Pocket](, you can find new articles to read, save articles for later, and even have your saved articles read aloud to you. I highly recommend checking out [Abigail's round-up here](. You're guaranteed to think about it the next time you get in a car.
