The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( April 10, 2023 The situation over on Twitter dot com just keeps getting worse. Over the weekend, my colleague Ali Breland compiled a list of data points supporting the hypothesis that Twitter CEO Elon Musk has [no idea what he's doing](. One is that Musk made the Twitter logo the "doge" dog amid a federal class action lawsuit accusing him of manipulating the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Another is that he labeled National Public Radio as âState-Affiliated Media," only to, amid criticism, update the label to "Government Funded." BBC now boasts the [same label](. (NPR and BBC are publicly funded, and government funds account for less than 1 percent of NPR's annual budget. Moreover, the two news services are editorially independent, not government mouthpieces, as the label implies.) There have been even cringier developments since Ali published his post. Musk apparently whited out the "w" in the "Twitter" sign at the company's San Francisco headquarters, so it now says, "Titter." Tee-hee! The 51-year-old also updated his display name to "Harry BÅlz." [This is bait](. But beyond the stunts, it's the glitches, above all, that have rendered Twitter nearly unusable for me. Last week, retweet labels [mysteriously went missing](, making my timeline an indecipherable mishmash of tweets from accounts I didn't follow. Worse, Twitter CircleâTwitter's long-anticipated version of Instagram's "close friends" featureâseems to have broken, allowing private tweets to [wind up on strangers' timelines](. Every day, I tell myself that it's the last straw and I'm quitting Twitter for good. But every day, I keep crawling back to the richest man in the world's [misinformation-ridden]( hellhole. I just wish that the site would crash once and for all. âAbigail Weinberg Advertisement [House Subscription Ad]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [Nancy Mace Gets It]( After a federal judge suspended the abortion pill, the Republican congresswoman called on the Biden admin to ignore the ruling. We need to raise $300,000 quickly, and we need more online readers to [pitch in]( than have been. You can read more in "[It's Not a Crisis.
