The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     March 30, 2023 It is amazing to me how sensitive Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis thinks children are to the content of the books they read. As my colleague Isabela Dias wrote in a feature for the May/June issue of Mother Jones, [published this week on our site](, bare school library shelves have become a reality for students across Florida in response to DeSantis' directive that books not in accordance with state standards be removed. Educators who don't comply could face a third-degree felony charge for "distribution of pornographic materials to minors." The state-ordered sanitation of classroom content has not only deprived students of reading material—it has pushed some teachers to their breaking point. One Florida social studies teacher, who covered his classroom library with a sign that said "Closed by order of the governor," told Isabela, “If you want to be a teacher, go someplace where better minds have prevailed. It’s not Florida.” You're not going to want to miss [this investigation]( into the dystopian reality unfolding in Florida at the hands of a man who is vying for the 2024 presidency. And while the policies are outrageous, the resilient educators resisting them give reason for hope. —Abigail Weinberg Advertisement [Domini Impact Investments]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [“Closed by Order of the Governor”: Teachers in the Crossfire of Florida’s War on Public Education]( The many casualties in Ron DeSantis’ crusade against "woke indoctrination."
