The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( March 8, 2023 How much would it take for you to publicly pledge allegiance to a man you privately loathe? Not just once, but night after night, knowing full well that your words carry an almighty weight for millions of Americans? ([Seriously, name a price here. I'd love to know!]() Personally, I'd like to think I'm above such moral depravity. But I'm probably not. After all, childcare is ludicrous in this country. I still have embarrassing daydreams of going for a useless MFA in writing. Plus, Netflix just keeps getting more expensive. Alright, I'm mostly kidding. But what to say about Fox News star propagandist Tucker Carlson, who, [for a cool $35 million a year](, plays lead MAGA diehard for America's biggest cable news audience, [despite privately loathing Donald Trump](? ["I hate him passionately,"]( Carlson literally wrote in a text message to a colleague, days before the January 6 Capitol Attack. "We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly canât wait," he wrote in another series of messages that got dumped in the latest Dominion Voting Systems filing as a part of the company's [$1.6 billion defamation lawsui](t against Fox News for helping push Trump's election lies. Does this expose Carlson as a snake? Sure. But Carlson's duplicity is well established. And really, it's just another version of the same theme that animates today's GOP: You support Trump as a means to an end. You will happily eat sh*t when in return, you'll get more attacks on entitlements, more white grievance, more political dominance. Of course, [some people predict that this era is finally coming to an end](. But based on the fact that Carlson is [still performing Trump's lies this week](, I have my doubts. After all, $35 million sure is a lot of money. âInae Oh Advertisement [House Store Ad]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [Inside the Secret Working Group That Helped Push Anti-Trans Laws Across the Country]( Leaked emails give a glimpse of the religious-right networks behind transgender healthcare bans.
