The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     January 23, 2023 The election cycle is a little exhausting, isn't it? Nearly two years before the next national election, everything from President Biden's [choice of chief of staff]( to Kyrsten Sinema's [decision to leave the Democratic Party]( appears to be a calculated move to prepare for 2024. Each election seems to come sooner—and be more consequential—than the last. They say time speeds up as you get older. I suppose that's a good thing for the Long Islanders who will likely be [stuck with George Santos]( for the next two years. Given the constant controversy around Sinema and her refusal to toe the Democratic Party line, it's no surprise that she's already facing a 2024 challenger: [Rep. Ruben Gallego]( (D-Ariz.), a first-generation American, Marine combat veteran, Harvard grad, and staunch progressive. While Gallego has not (yet) launched a full-fledged attack on Sinema, he implied in his first campaign video that she was out of touch with regular people—a point her recent [Davos anti-filibuster high-five]( seems to underscore. For the story of why Sinema is the way she is, don't miss my colleague Tim Murphy's outstanding [2021 profile](. —Abigail Weinberg Advertisement [UC Press - Goodmark]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [It’s Official: Ruben Gallego Is Taking on Kyrsten Sinema]( He announced his candidacy with a subtle jab at the Arizona senator.
