The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( January 19, 2023 According to [new reports](, Donald Trump is preparing a return to Twitter and Facebook. But before we dive into the implications of all that, let's get you up to speed on where he stands on all the platforms, including his own. Thanks to Elon Musk, Trump is actually already allowed back on Twitter. As you read this, Facebook's parent company, Meta, is currently mulling over a reinstatement and the public will learn of its decision soon. As for Trump's flailing social media company, Truth Social, that remains a dud. Should Trump abandon it, [Truth Social is all but doomed](. It's hard to know for sure what Trump's return to his favorite social media platform will look like. But I certainly remember the [effect Trump's Twitter had on my brain](. As I wrote shortly before the 2020 election: Taking a beat to reflect on the heaping pile of sh*t left in the wake of the first and potentially only Trump term, itâs @realDonaldTrumpâthe uncontrolled spigot of [misinformation](, [bigotry](, and [dumb](âthat perhaps more than any other feature of the weird sh*t haunts me most. [...] Those standing at the false altar of objectivity and centrism still breathlessly repeat untrue tweets verbatim and still decline to label outright lies and racism as just that. When it comes to the weirdest of the weird sh*t, some still try to treat it as something entirely different, hoping to [wring presidential behavior]( out of, well, weird sh*t. This unimpeachable failure has been exacerbated by repetition, and itâs left me bone-tired. My biggest fear is that these failures will continue, as if we've learned nothing from everything we've witnessed since 2016. Maybe that's a bit too pessimistic but I can't help but be skeptical after [reading this line from NBC News](: Another Trump confidant who also didnât want to be identified speaking about conversations with him said that Trump has sought input for weeks about hopping back on Twitter and that his campaign advisers have also workshopped ideas for his first tweet. There's nothing objectively wrong with the detail that campaign advisers are workshopping ideas for Trump's first tweet. It's certainly not NBC News' fault for reporting it. But for all of us who will soon be subjected to a tortured first tweet? Let's take a moment to enjoy life before the stupid storm on the horizon. As for the campaign advisers laboring over Trump's social language, well, maybe it's time to rethink your life's work. âInae Oh Advertisement [Icarus Films, Inc.]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [NY Fund Manager Linked to Russian Oligarch Invested Big With Santos.
