The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     November 7, 2022 Last week, my colleague Inae Oh asked you all how you're dealing with the approaching midterms (and attendant dread). I'd like to share my response: I find mundane joy in taking part in local elections, and paying attention to the debates that surround them. As I filled out my at-home ballot in Denver last week, I got to weigh in on a slew of statewide ballot initiatives, including a [proposition that would decriminalize psilocybin](—which you might know as "magic mushrooms" or "shrooms"—and create a framework for administering psilocybin therapy to people with certain mental illnesses. Citywide, voters will decide whether to increase taxes to fund the public library system, and whether sidewalk maintenance should be a public utility or private homeowners' responsibility. Not all of these proposals are the sexiest, but they're often likely to affect Coloradans' and Denverites' lives in more directly visible ways than national elections. Some ballot measures have engendered heated and at times [internecine debate](, especially the measure aimed at decriminalizing mushrooms. It's comforting to know that the fate of the country isn't the only thing I'm deciding on this election. If you haven't yet delved into your local ballot proposals, I encourage you to do so. You just might get to vote on something you're passionate about. —Abigail Weinberg Advertisement [Icarus Films, Inc.]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [We Need to Talk About Herschel Walker’s Controversial Mental Health Diagnosis]( The candidate says his dissociative identity disorder is "healed."
