The Russia scandal is spiraling out of control. Wow, MoJo Reader—where to begin? So much has happened since we launched our [new investigative project]( on Trump and Russia just a few days ago. Yesterday afternoon came the [revelation]( that former FBI Director James Comey kept notes of his conversations with the president—notes that reportedly document Trump asking him to drop the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn. That comes on top of news that Trump [discussed]( highly classified intelligence with Russia's foreign minister—just one day after firing Comey. There's the president's threatening [tweets](: "[Comey] better hope there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!" And in the middle of all that, we also learned that when Trump talked to Comey, he allegedly said that instead of investigating Flynn, Comey should look at "[putting reporters in prison](" for publishing classified information. At this point, honestly, no one knows what Trump is trying to hide. The one thing that is becoming clearer every day is that there is something he is eager to keep out of view—and that it's essential that the American public find out what it is. That's why we decided to double down on our reporting on the Trump-Russia scandal—and why we asked readers like you to [support it with tax-deductible monthly]( or [one-time]( gifts. Which brings me to the amazing news, instead of the alarming: The response has been absolutely overwhelming. We hit our goal in just 72 hours! More than 1,000 of your fellow MoJo readers have signed up as sustaining donors, which means your contributions will be there to keep our reporters on this essential beat month after month. (Because it’s clear that despite the avalanche of information, this saga isn't ending anytime soon!) So, we're committing to put more resources toward this story, and any additional funds we raise will go into this project. This is truly a leave-it-all-on-the-field moment for our democracy—if you think investigative journalism can be part of the solution, I hope you'll [consider becoming a sustaining donor to ensure we can keep on going, however long it takes, with a tax-deductible monthly]( (or [one-time]() gift, at an amount that works for you.
