The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     July 29, 2022 So, are we in a recession, or not? The White House says [no, absolutely not,]( prompting Fox News to reliably [argue yes,]( we most certainly are. Noxious right-wing conspiracy theorists are [dispensing Wikipedia nonsense](. And the stock market [doesn't seem to care]( what anyone thinks. My two cents on the economy, as someone who doesn't typically follow the economy, is that the significance surrounding the label feels a bit overblown. The last time we dipped into the dreaded r-word, I was still in college and the job market seemed way bleaker than it does now. There was also a bit more urgency in the air, with the government [bailing out big banks]( left and right. Of course, that's just my perception. But I say all this to push caution and stay skeptical of Republicans eagerly tossing out the recession narrative ahead of the midterms. In any event, [I found this from Paul Krugman to be helpful]( and in line with my generally hopeful view of where we stand. Anyway, before you sink into the weekend, I wanted to throw out another recommendation to watch "Only Murders in the Building." I said it before and I'll say it again, but Martin Short is a genius. The show is fine, but he is worth every second of enduring Cara Delevingne's atrociously bad acting. P.S. [Fancy yourself a digital producer](?
