[View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( January 31, 2022 Hello lovely readers! After four months of deliberately dodging the news, I'm back in the saddle and here to let you know that, upon a cursory glance, it doesn't seem like too much has changed since I last logged on. [Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema]( uphold their impressive records of being the absolute worst. Republicans keep trying to [break up families](. Voting rights are getting [demolished](. And Covid still plagues. But the news that Justice Breyer is [saving his legac](y by retiring has been an objectively exciting development, one that's got me pumped to be back in the newsroom. It's also sent Republicans into a reliable tizzy, particularly over Joe Biden's promise to nominate a Black woman. Yep, Susan Collins has now accused [Biden of politicizing]( the nomination process. Her senatorial colleague Roger Wicker went one step further, claiming that Biden's pick would be a ["beneficiary" of "racial discrimination](." The folks at Fox News are, of course, [flipping out](. That's a lot of smack talk! As for [Donald Trump saying the quiet part out loud]( this weekend and calling the three Black prosecutors investigating him "[racist](," well, I haven't heard a word from Collins or Wicker—or really any Republican who instead chose to waste their breath poo-pooing Biden's pledge to nominate a Black woman to the high court. As I said, it doesn't seem like too much has changed. P.S. Want to be a leading voice in environmental justice? Shape the conversation on global warming as a national security threat? Hold leaders accountable? We've got an opening for a whip-smart climate reporter—can be remote or work from our offices in NY, SF, or DC—so apply soon!
