Before this goes online Monday. [Mother Jones]( MoJo Reader, I appreciate trying new things, and they also make me nervous. So I’ll keep this short and simple. Because starting today, we're trying something different for our fall fundraising drive and seeing if we can rally $250,000 in donations during a shorter than normal three-week window. If you've been finding our reporting valuable, [please help us do it with a donation today so we can get off to a strong start](. Believe it or not, that's about it from me for today. I usually have so much to say about the state of [journalism]( and [democracy](—the [threats]( both face, the [generational change]( both can bring about—when we kick off a fundraising campaign and [ask you to support our work]( a few times a year. But today, my colleague Brian, who works with me on our fundraising, has a great post for you highlighting some of our [newsroom's impressive, impactful work of late](—including two big investigations in just one day and covering voting rights the way it needs to be done—that we hope you'll agree is worth [pitching in a few, or several, bucks to support during our condensed fall fundraising drive](. There really isn't much more to it than that: You come to Mother Jones for journalism that's different, and we love doing it for you. Brian also has this idea that maybe we're best off focusing on that right now. It doesn't take a Mother Jones investigation to know people are paying less attention to the news and traffic is still down at Mother Jones just as it is at other news sites. (Facebook [suppressing]( our reach doesn’t help either.) But you're still with us, you're still reading this, and the hope is that we can rally $250,000 in donations from our core group of readers funders in a short three-week window because you know why our work matters. [Please pitch in if you can](. We're not sure this approach is going to work. It's a lot of money in about half the time of a normal fundraising push around here, and on Monday we're going to put a big fundraising ask at the top of our site that shows how much of the $250,000 goal we've raised. The truth is, folks like you who read these emails are the people who really get that this kind of journalism can only happen with your support and you often pitch in the most. My hope is that you all—this group of committed readers—can lead the way so that on Monday, we can start with $25,000 or more already raised. That's a bit better than most of our fundraising emails do, but our community of readers is (more than) a bit better than most, and I hope you'll [help us get off to a strong start with a donation]( for this short but vital fundraising campaign today. I'm fighting my instinct to say more about why this all matters so much right now—you can't take the journalist out of me!—but I’m going to shut up for once and encourage you to [check out Brian's post]( if you'd like to read about our team's impressive, essential reporting as we ask you to [pitch in and support it.]( Thanks for reading, and thanks for everything you do to make Mother Jones what it is. Fingers crossed that this works! [Monika] Monika Bauerlein, CEO Mother Jones [Donate]( P.S. If you recently made a donation, thank you! And please accept our apologies for sending you this reminder—our systems take a little while to catch up. [Mother Jones]( [Donate]( [Subscribe]( This message was sent to {EMAIL}.
