[View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( January 11, 2021 Hello, and welcome back to another week in hell 2021. I hope you had a nice, relaxing weekend. It's going to be another chaotic week, with House Democrats vowing to proceed with an impeachment resolution if Vice President Pence and Trump's Cabinet don't invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president. Get ready for Trump impeachment 2.0âwith President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration just nine days away. It's funny: When Trump was impeached the first time, in December 2019, I bought a copy of the New York Times, intending to save it for posterity. I remember holding the newspaper as I stood on an elevated subway platform waiting for the train to take me to work at Mother Jonesâ New York office. It was cold and windy; the pages of the paper were flapping so wildly that I couldn't read it until I stepped inside the subway car, where I shared unmasked breath with my fellow passengers. The 13 months since then have diminished my perception of the importance of that day. How is it that I've grown desensitized to impeachments? That the apex of a pandemic takes a back seat in my mind to the rioters storming the Capitol and threatening to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power? That I step away from my computer for an hour on Friday evening and return to find the internet erupting with takes and jokes over Twitter having [permanently banned]( the president? I don't know how anyone is expected to keep a grip on reality these days. But I do know that my colleagues here at Mother Jones are churning out smart analyses every day to help us sort through the chaos. As always, I'll be blogging. I hope you'll follow along with us as history unfolds. âAbigail Weinberg Advertisement [House Donation Ad]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [The New York Bar Says It Is Investigating Rudy Giuliani]( The bar is looking into Giuliani for his role in frivolous election lawsuits and encouraging insurrection.
