The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     September 23, 2024 This weekend, Trump tried to do what many men courting women have before: pretend he is a feminist. In a late-night, all-caps [Truth Social rant]( on Friday, Trump vowed to make American women great again if he's reelected. Never mind the fact that he appointed three of the five Supreme Court justices who overruled Roe v. Wade or the fact that he was [found liable]( for sexual assault against a woman. The former president posted: "I WILL PROTECT WOMEN AT A LEVEL NEVER SEEN BEFORE.” And then, concluded, without providing any details on how, that women “WILL FINALLY BE HEALTHY, HOPEFUL, SAFE, AND SECURE. THEIR LIVES WILL BE HAPPY, BEAUTIFUL, AND GREAT AGAIN!” (All-caps is an interesting choice. You know what women love? Men yelling.) What prompted this? It's unclear, but it may have been related to Vice President Kamala Harris' [campaigning]( against abortion restrictions earlier on Friday, following ProPublica reports last week that identified the first two women believed to have died as a result of abortion bans instituted since the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision: [Amber Thurman]( and [Candi Miller](. "The reality is, for every story we hear of the suffering under Trump abortion bans, there are so many of the stories we’re not hearing," Harris said on the campaign trail. Trump did not address the women's deaths in his post—but he did claim that women "WILL NO LONGER BE THINKING ABOUT ABORTION" if he's reelected, before proceeding to repeat his well-worn [litany of lies about it](. The truth is less rosy than Trump would have you believe: In his America, women don't have the autonomy to be great. And less than 12 hours after his Truth Social post, Trump's familiar misogyny had reemerged. He [branded]( MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle a "'dumb as a rock' bimbo" after she criticized him on Bill Maher's show. —Julianne McShane Advertisement [House Subscriptions Ad]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [That Guy Who Overturned Roe Promises to Make Women Great Again]( Trump, who was found liable for sexual assault, said he would "PROTECT WOMEN AT A LEVEL NEVER SEEN BEFORE."
