[Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( September 10, 2024 A new Melania Trump video [just dropped](...and, believe it or not, it could be dangerous. That's because in the video, the former first lady hints at some of the unfounded conspiracy theories that [some of her other family members](â[and high-profile Republicans](âhave made suggesting political forces were behind the attempted assassination of her husband, former President Donald Trump. "I canât help but wonder," Melania asks in the video, "why didnât law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?â "There is definitely more to the story," she adds, "and we need to uncover the truth." This isn't just desperate: Experts have [been]( [telling]( my colleague Mark Follman that amplifying these kinds of conspiratorial claims is downright dangerous and could lead to more retaliatory political violence. But it appears that, like her husband, Melania [won't let pesky ethics]( [get in the way of a chance to make money](.
