The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     June 6, 2024 Donald Trump is teeming with many rotten characteristics. He is in denial of many of them. But one trait he fully owns? Being [openly and proudly consumed with revenge](. So it's no surprise that vengeance is the reigning theme in MAGA world after the former president was convicted in his hush-money trial. (Remember, this is a man who called for opening [an investigation into Joe Scarborough over false](, extremely absurd conspiracy theories that the MSNBC host killed a former employee.) But with Trump and President Biden virtually tied in the polls right now, these threats to retaliate against perceived political enemies take on a notably darker element. They seem to preview the authoritarian hellscape, one that fully weaponizes the Justice Department, that will unfold should Trump return to the White House. My colleague David Corn takes a [close look at Trump's rhetoric here,]( and though much of it extends his already [long record of retribution](, these new targets feel like something of a warning. It doesn't help that the rest of the GOP is stacked with allies who appear to be chomping at the bit to help either. —Inae Oh Advertisement [House Subscriptions Ad]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [Trump’s Obsession With Revenge: A Big Post-Verdict Danger]( The convicted felon has long hailed retaliation as a key to his success.
