My name is Hannah. I’m Senior Policy Counsel at The Humane League. I’m reaching out to you

My name is Hannah. I’m Senior Policy Counsel at The Humane League. I’m reaching out to you today because lobbyists for Big Meat are pushing lawmakers to overturn elections and state laws—all behind closed doors. Now, Congress is on the verge of wiping out decades of hard-won progress for animals. It’s time for Congress to put an end to Big Meat’s shenanigans. The following advertisement from The Humane League has been sent to you via Mother Jones' email list. [The Humane League] Call on Congress: [Don’t let Big Meat undo state laws.]( Hi Mother Jones Reader, My name is Hannah. [It’s time for Congress to put an end to Big Meat’s shenanigans.]( [ACT NOW]( Let me pause here to give you some context. House Agriculture Committee Chair GT Thompson (R-PA) recently released his draft of the Farm Bill—and it contains harmful language that would roll back the strongest animal protection laws in the country. [We can’t let that happen. Decades of vital progress are on the line.]( The good news is, there’s still time to fix this before the Farm Bill is finalized. [But we have to act fast.]( [CONTACT YOUR legislators]( ICYMI: The Farm Bill is a piece of legislation that gets renewed every five years in Congress. It has the power to shape the entire US food system, because it determines how federal spending gets allocated towards growing and distributing food. It covers everything from crop insurance to forestry management to SNAP. Right now, the House Agriculture Committee is considering GT Thompson's draft Farm Bill that includes a provision that would systematically unravel laws like California’s Proposition 12 and Massachusetts’ Question 3, which were landslide election wins. These laws ban the sale of eggs, pork, and veal from farms that keep animals in crates. Laws like these protect pregnant pigs, for example, from confinement in cages so small they can’t even turn around. We’re talking about something as basic as being able to spin in a circle. That’s how restrictive these cages are. And guess who benefits from GT Thompson’s dangerous Farm Bill? Big Meat—including multinational corporations willing to overturn democratic elections just to turn a profit. The most basic protections for animals hang in the balance. [Take action now.]( [The Humane League] The ball is in Congress’s court. Will Congress stand up against factory farming interests, defend the will of voters, and honor our state agriculture laws and elections? It’s up to you to make Congress listen. [Can I count on you to make your voice heard?]( [i’m in]( In solidarity, Hannah Truxell Senior Policy Counsel P.S. You are the best chance we’ve got to protect animals—and decades of progress—from profit-hungry corporations. [Send a message to your Senators and Representatives.]( Let them know the will of voters is more important than the will of greedy execs.
