The EPA is ready to tackle a national threat to our health — lead pipes. But we need your voice to help make it reality. [Help the EPA replace health-harming lead pipes across the U.S.]( Dear Mother Jones Reader, We know that there’s no safe level of exposure to lead and yet millions of homes across the U.S. still have outdated, harmful lead pipe service lines. The latest science shows that even the smallest trace can impact our children’s brain development, leading to learning and behavioral problems, and even lower IQs. As adults, exposure to lead can result in a number of health hazards, like higher blood pressure, decreased kidney function, and reproductive health problems. But the EPA is poised to take action on this issue. The EPA just released a new proposal to eliminate lead service lines, with the vast majority eliminated by 2037. To make this plan a reality and have the biggest impact, policymakers need to hear from you. [Raise your voice in support of a future free of lead pipes and sign EDF’s Lead Pipe Petition to urge the EPA to take action!]( There’s no environmental threat that we can’t solve with the right set of policy solutions, and for years the Environmental Defense Fund’s community of 3 million allies urged the EPA to develop a comprehensive solution to the clean water crisis. And here’s the good news: their new proposal does just that. If the proposal is approved, the EPA will: - Replace 100% of lead pipes for the vast majority of water systems by 2037 and strictly limit partial replacements. - Prioritize replacements for those who are disproportionately impacted by lead. - Require water systems to communicate more frequently and proactively with consumers about lead service lines and the system’s plans for replacing the lines at the lowest cost. Lead-contaminated water has been a threat for generations. But it doesn’t have to be, and the EPA’s plan is a big step in the right direction to make America’s drinking water safer. [Show your support for a commonsense solution to fix America’s lead pipe problem. Sign the Lead Pipe Petition and urge the EPA to approve their proposal and take every step possible to make our drinking water safe!]( Thank you for taking action, Wes Rogerson Manager, Grassroots Organizing & Activism [Raise your voice for lead-free water!]( [Find EDF on Facebook]( [Engage on Twitter]( [Explore on YouTube]( [Follow us on Instagram]( [Follow us on LinkedIn]( Environmental Defense Fund --------------------------------------------------------------- P.O.
