[Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( March 18, 2024 For all the speculation that Donald Trump is running for reelection to avoid jail, it doesn't appear as though the former president is making much of an effort to win beyond the usual routine. He was a no-show at every single Republican primary debate. Many of his speeches feel eerily "[low-energy](." And his social media posts are effectively recycled pieces of trash from the first go-around. This was evident once again when Trump posted an [all-caps appeal]( for votes that claimed people have nothing to lose by supporting him. "VOTE FOR TRUMP, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?" he bellowed, specifically. Here, Trump has essentially plagiarized himself, taking a ridiculous [rhetorical question targeting Black voters]( and expanding it for all of the American electorate to contemplate. This is lazy. If Trump is going to condescend to me, I want original material. Then again, maybe the dude is too busy tryingâ[and failing](âto come up (or get a company to post) a $454 million bond and avoid the potential seizure of his various properties. That's in addition to the [$83.3 million]( he still owes E. Jean Carroll. What do you have to lose with a president knee-deep in such expensive messes? âInae Oh P.S. What do NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Rick Perry, and an Oakland, California, hair-braiding salon owner have in common? The answer: Support for psychedelic drugs. Our colleagues at [Reveal have a great episode this week on the growing embrace of psychedelic drugs]( for therapy, even among conservative lawmakers and other unexpected corners. Be sure to listen.
