As inflation showed signs of easing, both the stock and bond markets breathed a sigh of relief that the Federal Reserveâs aggressive interest-rate hikes were likely behind it. U.S. stocks, especially the large-cap growth and technology stocks that were hit so hard in 2022, recovered a lot of their lost ground. Bonds also regained their footing. Meanwhile, cash yields remained robust. If youâre a disciplined investor, you can use an annual portfolio review as a way to check up on your portfolioâand potentially make some changesâwithin the context of your well-thought-out plan. After all, even if you havenât actively made changes to your portfolio mix, the contents of your portfolio may have shifted. I wrote about [how to conduct a year-end portfolio review]( including some tax-related adjustments you might wish to make before year-end. Relatedly, I appreciated Amy Arnottâs look at how rebalancing might be in order for a lot of investors. In[this video with Susan Dziubinski]( she discussed the chief benefits of rebalancing, tax considerations, and how/whether higher yields should play a role in how investors proceed. If youâre seeking courage to tilt your portfolio into unloved parts of the marketâespecially value, small-cap, and non-U.S. equitiesâyouâll find corroboration in the [conversation that Dan Lefkovitz and I had with GMOâs Ben Inker](. He discussed where the firm is spying value today, how high-quality stocks can become mispriced, and whatâs driving the ongoing strength in the âMagnificent Seven.â Finally, I wanted to highlight a couple of wise articles from two colleagues, Adam Fleck and Madeline Hume. Following on my article about [my own investment failings]( , and [Amyâs reflection on her own]( Adam trained his gaze on [where he flouts conventional wisdom in his own portfolio management](. Madeline, meanwhile, wrote about [her own money journey]( concluding with a statement that had me nodding vociferously in agreement. âThereâs no secret trick, not really. Time, diversification, and compounding are the only friends youâll ever make in investing.â The sooner we all learn that lesson, the better! With warm regards,
