It’s hard to believe, but stocks are closing in on new highs, and if they get there, they will have entirely recouped the losses posted in 2022. This latest leg higher came courtesy of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting on Wednesday. The big news wasn’t that the Fed kept rates steady, but that it is likely done with rate hikes and is expecting to pivot to cuts in 2024. As Morningstar’s chief economist Preston Caldwell [notes, Fed chair Jerome Powell hedged]( on the predictability of cuts. However, Caldwell predicts that not only will the Fed cut rates next year, but that it will do so six times – more than the central bank says is likely. Find out why Caldwell expects such [aggressive rate cuts here](. For the year that’s about to conclude, the Fed was certainly one of the biggest stories. [Sarah Hansen has a look]( back at this and the other big stories for the year, and how analysts say they will play out in 2024. We’ve got a pair of pieces for investors in dividend stocks. The first is a screen of undervalued stocks that just raised their dividends, featuring [four cheap names](. Taking a step back, Morningstar Investment Management’s David Harrell and Morningstar Index’s Dan Lefkovitz [chat in this video]( about the year that was for dividend stocks, including high-dividend strategies vs. dividend growth. At year-end, it’s always important to consider how swings in the market have affected your investment allocations. [Amy Arnott offers a guide]( for where you may need to make some portfolio cuts, and where in the market you may need to put more money to work. Lastly, we look at an interesting trend. Investors have been bailing from inflation-protected bond funds, aka TIPS funds. Notably, they are even exiting the category’s best performers. And [as we note](€‹â€‹â€‹?utm_source=eloqua&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_smartinvestor&utm_content=50586&elqTrackId=d17b0a5fb3764afd8b609aed4659a45d&elq=858c857f8ed7493787a61530eed4fe6d&elqaid=50586&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=25337), investors unfortunately haven’t had a great record when buying and selling TIPS.
