The anecdotes entertain, but the economic implications should not be ignored. In other financial news this week, shares of GameStop (GME) fell 40% in 25 minutes, and the SEC warned investors to not invest in special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, based solely on a celebrity’s involvement. Really--the SEC had to warn people not to do that? Just when I thought I’d gotten lost in a speculative funhouse, good news arrived: Morningstar’s director of personal finance (and my longtime friend) Christine Benz had been named one of Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance for a second year--coinciding with [International Women’s Day](. Christine is more than worthy of this accolade, as frequent readers of this newsletter already know. In fact, her work embodies what “smart investing” is all about--putting your goals first, saving diligently, controlling the factors that you can (such as taxes and costs), and keeping your investments simple yet diversified. No shorting, cryptocurrencies, or celebrity endorsements required. Christine's advice is the thoughtful, commonsense antidote to the get-rich-quick mindset dominating the financial media today. Congratulations, Christine--and keep that practical financial advice coming. Now I just need to figure out how to turn your very first column from Morningstar.com into a nonfungible token. -Susan Dziubinski, director of content ADVERTISEMENT [media]( [media] Morningstar Specialists [When Stocks Become Collectibles]( [When Stocks Become Collectibles]( John Rekenthaler The anecdotes entertain, but the economic implications should not be ignored.
