Plus, birthday reflections and the top 5 deals Hi, Friends! I turn 42 today -- and I am so grateful for another year of life. This past year has been full of much change, between our oldest graduating and moving out to go to college, adopting David, adjusting to providing childcare for C 2-4 days/week (we fostered him in 2020 and now help his mom out with childcare while she works -- he's a very lively 3 1/2 year old!), starting homeschooling Kierstyn and Micah, and some pretty big changes in our business. Caring for and keeping up with all the people in our home + the rest of the details of life constantly keeps me looking to Jesus and seeking His grace and strength to do what He's called me to do. This year has also been a year of me learning my limits. Adding in regularly taking care of a fourth young child has caused me to really need to simplify in many areas, let go of things, and just willingly accept help offered. It's been so good for me to learn to say yes to help from others (I don't like being needy so I'm not good at letting others help!) and to say no to things because I have hit capacity. As a woman who typically has really high capacity and can juggle a lot is usually the one giving out and helping others, this year has been one of my learning to stay humble, do less, simplify more, and willingly receive from others. And it's been good -- albeit really hard for my stubborn self! I'm looking forward to what this next year holds and what I'm going to learn and how I'll grow through it! A New Haircut + Preschool Update David got a new hair cut this past week -- and it instantly has made him look older! We have been so encouraged with how much he is learning from preschool. We tried to keep our expectations low, but the progress has been pretty amazing! And he's loving it, from what we can tell! We are so grateful for his team, therapists, and teachers who pour so much into him! How I Get 3 Hours of Outside Time Every Day The weather has been gorgeous, so we've been trying to soak it up and have been spending hours and hours outside every day! If you've been following for awhile, you know I aim to be outside 3 hours every day. People often ask me how I accomplish that. Well, it helps that we live in TN where it is usually pretty nice in the early mornings and later evenings -- even during summer! I usually start my morning on the screened in porch and read my BIble, read from whatever inspirational books I'm currently reading, and do a little computer and Instagram work. Typically, this will be around an hour and a half. And then we do our homeschool time outside, which is another hour+. Then, we often play outside, attend some outside event, go on a walk, go to a football or soccer or baseball game, etc. So between all of these things, it's not hard to average 3+ hours of outside time every day right now! Homecoming! Kaitlynn had Homecoming last weekend. It was a Western theme and she invited us to come to where the group she was with was taking photos. We had come straight from an out-of-town baseball tournament, but she willingly let her sweaty brother put his arm around her for a picture... which I loved!
