Books I'm loving, the homeschool program we're using, and some encouragement for moms Hi, Friends! You may not have noticed, but I've not sent a personal email newsletter for quite some time! I've had it on my list every week to draft one, but then it keeps getting shoved to the back burner. If you don't follow closely on Instagram, here are a few things that have taken place: [Kaitlynn started her senior year](), we've been [watching C]() (the three-year-old we fostered in 2020) for 20-40 hours a week while his mom works, [Kathrynne started college](=), [David started preschool](), and [Kaitlynn got her driver's license](. So suffice it to say, we've been walking through a lot of transition in our home and lives. I feel like I haven't fully had the space to process through each thing, but I'm slowly adjusting to our new rhythms and new normal. Jesse and I [shared more about these transitions and what it's been like to walk through them on a recent podcast.]() I think the biggest thing for me has been seeking to savor each day, see the good and the gifts, and to be present where I am. Starting my day with sunlight on our back porch and a little bit of quiet (most days!), plus time in God's Word and in good books has been a grounding anchor for my days. On Homeschooling... One thing I'm loving right now is getting back into homeschooling. If you're new around here, you might not know that my husband and I were homeschooled and we homeschooled our older 3 for 6 years. I loved homeschooling, but God made it abundantly clear to us that He was calling us down a different path for our older three after 6 years. (I wrote more about our journey with this in my book, [Love-Centered Parenting]().) It was HARD for me to let go of homeschooling and yet I realized how good it was for me to not find my identity in something other than who I am in Christ (I didn't realize it until I let it go, but being a homeschool mom had become part of my identity in an unhealthy way). I never knew that God was going to eventually give us three more little ones and we'd get the privilege of getting to homeschool again! Kierstyn is doing Junior Kindergarten from Memoria Press this year and we are loving it so far! Micah is doing the Memoria Press preschool program (it's just mostly books and poetry and a few crafts and is just 10-15 minutes/day) and LOVING it! (You can [see a clip of him during our school time here](=)!) = How to Enjoy Motherhood More Mamas, if there’s one piece of advice I could give for loving motherhood more, it’s this: enjoy your kids. I mean, really, truly enjoy them. Laugh with them. Let them tease you — and dish it right back. Have inside jokes. Find out what speaks love to them and prioritize that. A child or teen who knows that his or her mom really delights in them and spending time with them is going to be much more apt to want to spend time with you. Connect with them just because. Hang out with them just because. Don’t have an agenda. Don’t only spend time with them when you need to have an important conversation. Don’t put them down in how you talk about them or to them. Laugh at their jokes. Listen to their music. Watch the videos and shows they like. Listen to them share about that subject they are passionate about. Care about their friends. Don’t belittle or discount their fears and worries. Let them vent their big feelings without quickly jumping into fix it or sermon mode. Let your countenance and your words and your attitude speak to how much of a gift and blessing they are. There is a time and place for hard conversations and correction, but let it be built upon a strong foundation of time and fun and connection. ❤️ What I've Been Reading I've been working my way through the Ruta Seeytys books ever since I read [Salt to the Sea]() this summer and LOVED it. So far I've listened to [The Fountains of Silence](=) and [Between Shades of Gray]() (has nothing to do with a book that has a similar title, by the way) and am currently listening to [I Must Betray You](. All of them have been fantastic and I'd highly recommend if you are looking for good, clean historical fiction! Have a wonderful rest of the week -- and I hope to be back again with another newsy email next week (no promises, but I'm hoping!!) -Crystal [Unsubscribe]( Money Saving Mom, LLC 2020 Fieldstone Parkway, Ste. 900 #313 Franklin, Tennessee 37069 United States
