Need some encouragement today? [image]( Hi, {NAME}! âThis is the reproductive clinic. We were just wanting to check in on you since we havenât heard from you in awhile.â I answered the phone last Monday and heard these words. Three years ago, after years of secondary infertility, we had just finished a lot of fertility testing at this reproductive clinic. And we had gone into the office to meet with them about our test results and to craft our plan of action. We were a ball of nerves and excitement all wrapped up into one. But instead of a plan of action, we got the devastating news that we werenât candidates for any plan of action â not even IVF. I still remember the doctor quietly telling us, âYou can try IVF, but youâll just be wasting your money.â They gave us the option of embryo adoption or IVF with a donor. For a variety of reasons, I knew that neither of those were options Jesse and I had peace about. I cried until I had no more tears. âGod, this wasnât the plan!! Why did you put this longing in our hearts for more babies only to have the door slammed in our face?!?â But while it may have seemed like it at the time, our story was far from over. I look back and see Godâs hand so clearly in the slammed door. Last week, when the reproductive center called us back to check on us, I was holding Kierstyn, Jesse and I had just a conversation about babysitting Champ the next day (he's the sweet baby boy we fostered for most of last year and still get to help out his mama with babysitting), and we had literally just minutes before made the decision to say yes to another foster placement text that had come in an hour before (DCS ended up finding a home for her right before we told them yes). I just had to laugh and say to the person on the other end of the phone, âNo, I think weâre good! But thank you for calling to check in on us!â I mean, I probably should have tried to explain, but how do you exactly say, âActually, last year, we had a baby without any infertility treatments, we also brought another newborn home from the NICU and loved him as our own for 8+ months, and our home is open and on the list to say yes to another baby any day! Weâre just waiting for the call!â Only God. I donât know what doors may have slammed shut in your life recently, but I just want to encourage you with this: your story isnât over! [image]( We finally made it happen â after having to cancel due to the snow and ice the week before. [Angie Smith came over to record a podcast](⦠and we covered a lot of ground in our short interview! Angie is one of those people who is always so honest and also hilarious. Every time Iâm with her, she makes me think with her deep questions AND she makes me laugh until the tears come with her funny stories! In this episode, we begin by recounting how Angie and I met at a blogging conference a number of years ago and her first words to me the first time we met actually played a profound part in our familyâs journey. We also talk about how she was instrumental in connecting us with a group of people who became our lifeline after we moved to TN. (And donât miss her funny story about the time we were on a cruise together and she forgot to pack the bottom half of her wardrobe!) Angie didnât grow up in the church and she shares really candidly in the episode about her faith journey, her struggles with doubt, how she is processing and wrestling through grief in her life, plus really practical advice for women who want to study the Bible but donât know where to start and feel like they donât have time to âdo it rightâ. If youâve ever had doubts about God, struggled to really believe that the Bible is true, or felt like you want to deepen your faith or grow closer to the Lord but you just donât know how to do so, I hope this conversation gives you a big dose of encouragement (and hopefully a few laughs, too!)
