A crazy thing happened today.... I was excited to do a full marathon where I also ran my best 10k and half marathon times in the past 2 years. So naturally, I should do pretty well, despite my injury over the last 3 months. WRONG! Although I started strong, my calves started cramping up over 5 miles before the finish line. Even worse, I was on the verge of passing out. I haven't run more than 13 miles for the last 3 months, putting me in worse shape. I ended up walking and jogging the rest of the way as several runners passed me. Honestly, I was about to tap out at the final aid station. But then I released my ego. No matter how slow I go, I'll cross that finish line. The words of my high school running coach came to mind when I asked him, "What should I be thinking during the race." Puzzled by the question, he responded a little flippantly, "One foot in front of the other." AND THAT'S WHAT I DID! The last mile, I hobbled along just on the edge of muscle cramps. After I crossed the finish line, guzzled drink after drink, I went to the muscle compression tent and collapsed, like you see after I was done posing. As I checked my final time, guess what I saw? I STILL WON 1ST IN MY AGE GROUP! I'm completely wiped out, but proud that I didn't give up. Bonus that I got 1st place in my age group. THE SAME GOES FOR YOU! There may be days YOU want to give up and quit your race. Release your ego, allow for grace, and just do what you can. It doesn't matter how ugly the finish may look. FINISH YOUR RACE! And be happy for your progress, no matter how big or little it is. JUST REMEMBER TO MOVE ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER! What are you doing to keep moving forward today? Reply to this email and let me know! Have a great day! Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
