Financial advisors will teach you to save all your life like a hungry squirrel ‌ ‌ ‌

Financial advisors will teach you to save all your life like a hungry squirrel ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ I trained my friend Doug to be a financial advisor, but he quit. He left to become a real estate investor. At the time I thought “Good luck with that!” I was sure he’d soon come crawling back wanting his old job back. Shortly after I had the heart-wrenching sit down with my dad about his finances, I ran into Doug. The conversation didn’t go AT ALL like I had expected. He enthusiastically told me things are amazing right now! He had partnered with his dad on some real estate deals, and now his dad had doubled his income. He was a professor at a major university making what most people would think is substantial money. I said, “Come on, this can’t be true.” He asked me, “How many of your clients are financially free?” I had to say none. “How many of the guys in the office, if you take away your commissions, are financially free?” Again, none. “There’s your problem,”he said. Thanks to Doug, I had a mindset shift. True financial freedom isn’t about accumulation, it’s about passive income.  He's cute, but I don't want to be him! Financial advisors will teach you to save all your life like a hungry squirrel. If you do a good job, you will fill your cheeks with enough nuts to last the winter. Your cheeks might be pretty full right now, but what happens at the end of winter and you’re hungry again? You have to hunt for more nuts. Wouldn’t it be better if your nuts were simply falling from the sky and all you had to do was pluck one from the air, take as much of a nibble as you desire, and have more whenever you wanted? That’s what passive income is like. We were lied to. Maybe not intentionally, but we were given outdated advice from people who are most likely never going to achieve the financial freedom they promise. It makes me mad. I don’t know about you, but I want to enjoy my nuts right now. The terms financial freedom and financial independence get tossed around a lot. But what do they really mean? For me, financial independence is when you have enough passive income to cover your expenses every month. Financial freedom is the “nuts falling from the sky” stage. When money is no longer the reason you do or do not do anything. You have a life of freedom because money is readily available. When I went all in on real estate investing I was surprised to find out how quickly I could get to not only financial independence, but financial freedom. At the risk of sounding like a cliched, late-night infomercial—you will, too. Transitioning from a saver’s mindset to one where you understand that passive income and cash flow are the key to your financial future is the first big step. I can help you get the rest of the way. If you still have doubts or think real estate investing is just too risky, hit reply and let me know. I’m always happy to help you run some numbers so we can see together if retirement is an option. Or if your retirement winter might be a lot more difficult than you’ve been told.
