[Postcards] Dear Fellow Expat, They say the idea of Florida is irrational, maniacal, illogical, delusional, insane, emotional, unstable, and maybe even absurd. A walking headline engaged in outlandish legal behavior. A punchline... deserving of media ridicule and shame from the upper forty nine. However, let me make something crystal clear from the jump. The Florida you're entering is not the place you can point your finger on the map, but rather the 'florida republic'-an independent and profitable state of mind that lets you opt out of the absurd and into a more prosperous way of thinking. You see, for the past 20 years, the State of Florida has become a comic icon thanks to our state's broad free press laws. The Sunshine State, the notorious 'Florida Man,' isn't a mark of insanity, but pure authenticity. Simply providing a clear lens into the unfiltered spectacle of America. It's not madness, it's raw reality. But I assure you, my friend, it's neither the Florida Man punching alligators nor the one trading oil-and-gas stocks under this coconut outpost that requires national shame and atonement... In the florida republic, we are not as insane as you think... The real problems - scratching at the collective American nerve and anyone still sane and enlightened - fester 725 miles north of florida's border. You see, here in the florida republic, we're independent. In truth, we're misinterpreted - well-managed, well-stocked, well-read, and certainly well-prepared for what comes ahead in this economy. As I tap these laptop buttons, a long mirror rises from beneath my tomato plants and rows of unkempt squash - and stretches so high that it reflects our corrupted leaders, hapless regulators, foolish pundits, and broken promises for investors. And we'll shine that disinfecting florida sun on them all brightly. Welcome to the florida republic - an independent and profitable state of mind. This postcard is a daily correspondence that offers blunt economic insight, pointed geopolitical analysis, active trading and investing perspective, anomaly research, dry wit, and whatever else courses through this sun-bathed contrarian. You can expect to see it in your mailbox each day. If not, send me a note, and I'll ensure it's there.
