How to play Warren Buffett's OXY moves [Money Morning LIVE] Wednesday, July 05, 2023 Horseshoes, Hand Grenades, and Figuring Out the Fed --------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Reader, We hope you had a great Fourth of July holiday filled with family, fun, and fireworks... plus, plenty of beer if you caught Monday's issue! But now it's time to rub the sleep from our eyes, shake off any hangover, clear our ears of the ringing of fireworks, and prep for what will be a furious few days of news. Up first, everyone's favorite data release...Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes at 2:00 PM ET. These are backward looking, but they'll likely show the debate over holding rates unchanged for the first time in 15 months. Drama between governors and presidents always grabs the market's attention. Plus, we'll get a peek into how steely the Fed's resolve is to bring inflation down to its 2% target. Of course, investors are looking for any evidence of a "horseshoes and hand grenades" moment... whether 2% is truly the end of the road or if 3%, 3.5%, or somewhere inbetween is "close enough." But there seems to be no stopping this bull's charge. The Nasdaq soared in June... That's five months of gains out of six in 2023. Clearly investors aren't convinced the Fed is going to blink. But the mood can always change quickly if the tone into today's minutes feels hawkish. We know Fed Chair Jerome Powell continually chirps that there's more work to be done. But how much? Friday's rally was driven by the monthly Personal Consumption Expenditures release - the Fed's preferred inflation gauge. And it showed inflation at its lowest level since April 2021. That inches us ever closer to those "horseshoes and hand grenades" levels. Now, regardless of which way the minutes lean on today's FOMC minutes, we're not concerned. And you shouldn't be either. There's always a path to profits. And as always, our Money Morning strategists are tracking the markets closely, identifying the best opportunities, no matter whether we see evidence of another pause, skip, or hike... --------------------------------------------------------------- Across Money Morning --------------------------------------------------------------- It's Not Too Late to Invest in AI - if You Know How...
